Rodney Harrison rips HOF voters for Belichick snub: 'You guys got it wrong'
Count Rodney Harrison among those displeased with Bill Belichick's Hall of Fame snub.
That shouldn't be a surprise for many, considering Harrison is a two-time Super Bowl champion underneath Belichick's guidance.
That said, Harrison took aim at Hall of Fame voters - one of whom is former NFL head coach and NBC colleague Tony Dungy - for choosing not to enshrine Belichick in 2026.
During NBC's pre-Super Bowl 60 coverage, Harrison ripped Hall of Fame voters while delivering his case for Belichick.
"What I would say, coach, is any list that doesn't include Bill Belichick at the top is absolutely wrong," Harrison said during NBC's pregame show. "And a lot of those players that we mentioned, they're great players. ... But there's nobody more deserving to be in that Hall of Fame than coach Belichick. ...
"When I look throughout the Hall of Fame, even a guy like Tom Brady. Tom Brady wouldn't be Tom Brady without a guy like Bill Belichick. And that's the disappointing part of it, coach, and you guys got it wrong."
Harrison also pointed out that Belichick, one of Dungy's chief AFC rivals during the 2000s, designed defenses to counteract and stop the Patriots and Tom Brady.
Dungy didn't have a rebuttal to Harrison's impassioned speech, opting to point to the fact that the Hall of Fame voting process has changed, and that has resulted in deserving nominees being passed on by the voters.
Belichick fell short of the minimum 40 of 50 votes for Hall of Fame enshrinement in 2026, his first year of eligibility for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Patriots owner Robert Kraft, a finalist for the first time in 2026, also did not meet the criteria.
Both will have an opportunity once again during the 2027 voting cycle.
Did Tony Dungy vote for Bill Belichick?Dungy is part of the Hall of Fame committee that votes on candidates for Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement. Jac Collinsworth asked Dungy plainly if he voted for Belichick. Dungy declined to elaborate.
"Jac, I'm not gonna disclose that," he told Collinsworth.
In recent weeks, Dungy has refused to acknowledge his vote on Belichick one way or the other. During the lead up to Super Bowl 60, Dungy was asked whether he voted for Belichick. He passed on answering.
"I am not going to make a comment on it, so we'll find out who's in and who's out," he said.
