Way back at the start of the 2025 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers were added a high-end edge rusher by trading Kenny Clark and two first-round picks to the Dallas Cowboys for Micah Parsons before signing Parsons to a four-year, $186M contract.

Fast forward just over six months and the Packers suddenly find themselves needing to free up cap space for 2026, with edge rusher Rashan Gary one of the names that has been most often mentioned when it comes to ways for Green Bay trim salary.

To that end, on Monday multiple reports emerged that the Packers had agreed to a trade that would send Gary, along with his $18M 2026 salary to the Cowboys in exchange for a Day 3 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Reports have the pick that is going back to Green Bay a 2027 fourth-round pick.

Gary's current contract runs through the 2027 season, meaning he is under contract with the Cowboys for the next two years at total of $42M.

The trade leaves the Packers with just over $17M of dead money that will hit the cap this season, but also frees up almost $11M of 2026 cap space.
