We've got new news!

Former Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Johnathan Hankins joined 710's Brock & Salk on Thursday morning for a casual interview. Hankins - a great interview himself - also provided two significant updates about the Seahawks' defensive line status for 2026.

They're both retirement updates of note.

On the one, Hankins himself is done. After playing for five NFL teams, lastly with Seattle, Hankins missed the entire 2025 season on Injured Reserve with a serious back injury. After 12 seasons of play, he plans to retire this offseason as a Oakland/Las Vegas Raider.

Another big information was that Hankins did not receive a Super Bowl ring due to his absence from the team. Brock Huard offered to put in a word with the team, but as of now Hankins doesn't have the ring.

The other retirement announcement?

He is pretty confident his former Dallas Cowboys teammate DeMarcus Lawrence will not call it quits.

Well I believe he has another year to play with the Seahawks. I don't think he's going to stop at one Super Bowl, I definitely think he's got more."

I think it would only be right to run it back and try to be a two-time [Super Bowl champion]."

Just knowing him personally as a brother, I think he'll be back, so y'all don't gotta worry about that."

This hasn't been announced by Lawrence's camp yet, nor leaked to the Adam Schefters of the world. We also live in the Maxx Crosby never mind" week, so things remain unofficial until they become official.

But if true - and Hankins is pretty plugged in both to the team and linemen around the league through his podcast Big Time Talks" - this would be a huge relief to Seahawks and fans this spring. Following the departure of Boye Mafe, the uncertainty of Lawrence looms as a decision that would drastically swing the depth of edge on this roster.
