Bills bring back familiar WR for 2026 NFL season

The Buffalo Bills and Trent Sherfield are running it back, reuniting for the 2026 NFL season after the wide receiver signed a one-year contract to begin his second stint with Buffalo on March 26. Sherfield, who recently turned 30, was last with the Bills for the 2023 NFL season, during former head coach Sean McDermott's tenure.

During that 2023 season, Sherfield caught 11 passes (22 targets) for 86 yards and one touchdown - with four of his receptions going for first downs, per Pro Football Reference. While his numbers don't necessarily stand out as a player who appeared on 392 snaps (34%), Sherfield brought a physical element to Buffalo's offense as a wide receiver with a penchant for blocking downfield. Sherfield also played the role of special teams gunner during the 2023 season, and appeared on 35% of special teams snaps (150 total). That's a role the Bills could ask him to reprise this season.

Prior to returning to One Bills Drive, Sherfield made stops with the Minnesota Vikings (2024), then in 2025 he spent time with both the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos. Sherfield's most productive NFL season as a wide receiver came in 2022, when as a member of the Miami Dolphins he caught 30 passes (51 targets) for 417 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bills also signed a pair of offensive linemen on Thursday, with Buffalo's front office coming to terms on one-year deals with offensive guard/center Austin Corbett and center Lloyd Cushenberry III.
