Patriots’ last unrestricted free agent finally sees some action

With the calendar flipping from March to April, five members of the New England Patriots' free agency class still remain unaccounted for. However, there recently has been some action for one player on that list.

On Monday, offensive tackle Thayer Munford Jr. took a visit with the Tennessee Titans. He was not signed by the club yet, but the visit in itself is a sign that there is interest in his services from teams other than the Patriots.

New England is not categorically opposed to bringing Munford Jr. back into the fold as extra depth at offensive tackle, even after signing James Hudson to a one-year deal. However, with the 26-year-old currently recovering from knee surgery he underwent after the Super Bowl, the team is taking a patient approach.

The Titans taking a look at him could spark some movement, though.

Re-signing Munford Jr. seems like a sensible plan for a team whose depth behind starting offensive tackles Will Campbell and Morgan Moses is a work in progress. Behind the aforementioned Hudson, the team also has Marcus Bryant, Sebastian Gutierrez and Lorenz Metz under contract. Based on his 2025 role, Munford Jr. would at least raise the group's floor.

After spending time with the Raiders, Patriots and Browns, Munford Jr. returned to Foxborough and appeared in nine games with three starts. Playing 143 offensive snaps, he mainly served as a sixth offensive lineman and emergency right tackle.

Munford Jr. entered the offseason as one of six Patriots unrestricted free agents. The other five all signed elsewhere.
