Bengals Twitter reacts to Kyle Dugger and Ja’Sir Taylor signings
The Cincinnati Bengals made two more free agency moves today, signing former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Kyle Dugger and former Los Angeles Chargers corner Ja'Sir Taylor to one-year deals.
These are low-risk signings that could ultimately pay off down the stretch if the Bengals are back in contention, similar to the addition of Eli Apple in 2021.
Fans on Twitter were generally positive about the addition of Dugger.
This is kind of a fire move ngl

The perceived thinking of Cincinnati's front office is that the veteran safety will add stability and fundamentals to a young and inconsistent defense.
Bengals adding Kyle Dugger on a one-year deal? Smart veteran move for the secondary. Versatile safety who brings experience and can play multiple spots. AFC North rivalry just got a little spicier

The addition of Dugger left some wondering if this could mean the team won't be taking Ohio State standout safety Caleb Downs in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.
Does this mean no Caleb Downs

Meanwhile, most fans see Taylor as a good depth piece.
This is a solid depth move for the Bengals defense. Ja'Sir Taylor is a versatile player who can help out on special teams and provide some much-needed cover in the slot. It's a classic low-risk one-year deal for a guy who has already shown he can handle a decent number of snaps...

Bengals cookiing in silence again Low-risk, high-reward depth for the secondaary.

Others see him as more than that. Some went so far as to praise the Bengals' secondary as now being a point of strength.
Bengals quietly assembling one the leagues bests secondaries....

The Bengals secondary has been a conversation that never quite gets resolved and Ja'Sir Taylor is another piece being placed into that puzzle. He is not a headline signing but the NFL is won and lost on exactly these kinds of moves. A corner who knows how to play the position,... pic.twitter.com/SRI2IvEiBt

Trent Brown signing a 1-yr deal in 2024 didn't prevent CIN from drafting Amarius Mims that year.
- Andre Perrotta (@andreperrotta13) April 2, 2026
Similarly, the Kyle Dugger deal won't alter CIN's draft plans.
Having said that, CIN could very well have either Delane/McCoy as a higher rated prospect than Downs irrespective...
A different style of versatility on the Bengals' defense for 2026.

Kyle Dugger, 30, has been a starter for effectively his entire career. He plays the slot, safety and even linebacker based on where he lines up. https://t.co/skPOwgvCGz
If you're worried about today's signing of Kyle Dugger steering the #Bengals away from Caleb Downs, don't be.https://t.co/vBuQTtzlVu

Last year, the Bengals typically matched 12 personnel with a base. That base D allowed the most yards per play (6.1) in the entire NFL. The Bengals' 4-3 defense also ranked dead-last in EPA/play and second-worst in EPA/pass.

Kyle Dugger can help there. https://t.co/KAUBwirnKe
Per source, Ja'Sir Taylor passed up an offer that included guaranteed money for the chance to join the Bengals nickel competition.

Jalen Davis, Taylor, and Bralyn Lux - who quietly impressed on PS in '25 - are options. Plus Kyle Dugger comes aboard:https://t.co/wCX5VyqlRe
Dugger and Taylor won't make or break the defense, but the Bengals have now added five players via free agency to that side of the ball, which should at least give them more options in the Draft.
