The long-awaited big event of the offseason is nearly upon us. The 2026 NFL Draft is now just a couple of weeks away (April 23-25). We will finally get answers to all of the draft guesstimates and speculation we've been entertaining ourselves with the past several months, hopefully in the form of players who can be immediate difference-makers.

Through the entire draft process, as well as free agency, we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel and should have a better understanding of where things currently stand roster wise. We have a pretty good idea of what positions they could be targeting as well as the players they could covet. It's that information that leads us to believe there are a few positions they could bypass completely though, which will discuss below.

Quarterback

With Dak Prescott firmly entrenched as the unquestioned QB1, and with Joe Milton and Sam Howell both competing with one another for the QB2 job, it would be an absolute shock if the Cowboys spent any draft capital at the position. Things look pretty set as things stand right now, so it's probably safe to assume if any other QB is added to the roster it's going to be an undrafted free agent who comes in as a camp arm.

Running back

By re-signing Javonte Williams to once again be their RB1, the Cowboys kept their offense intact from a season ago. There are some questions about who will emerge as the RB2, however, HC Brian Schottenheimer likes the competition they currently have behind Williams in the Malik Davis, Jaydon Blue, and Phil Mafah. With that in mind, and due to a weak RB draft class, it wouldn't be a surprise to see them bypass the position altogether.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer doesn't feel like they need to add another young running back into the mix. He spoke highly of Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah and Malik Davis. "That should be a very competitive position, but we gotta get those young guys going."

Offensive line

In Tyler Guyton, Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe, Tyler Booker, and Terence Steele the Cowboys have their starting five OL as well as solid depth at swing OT Nate Thomas and iOL T.J. Bass and Matt Hennessey. With roster needs of higher priority they need to address early other than OL, and the fact the Cowboys are looking for immediate contributors, no o-lineman may get drafted this year. A late-round pick is possible, but still probably unlikely.
