Kudos to Mickey Loomis and the Saints front office staff
This offseason has been nothing short of exciting for all New Orleans Saints fans as General Manager Mickey Loomis has brought back the vibes of the 2017 offseason. The difference between this year and 2017 is that the 2026 free agent class has been more exciting.
In 2016, the Saints finished 7-9 with an older roster that struggled to run the ball consistently. There were also issues at tight end and coverage weaknesses on defense. Some may have forgotten the name Delvin Breaux, but the struggles from times like that are what made the 2017 offseason and draft so exciting-especially when looking back at the results and what that class was able to accomplish.
The 2026 offseason as a whole is sitting at the precipice of having that same kind of impact. The 2025 season ended with hope rather than disappointment, but that hope has been expanded by the acquisitions the front office has made, along with the draft process and selections.
This offseason is setting itself up to be a foundation for future success, largely because Mickey Loomis has been able to adapt and move the front office toward accepting a true rebuild. It also reached a point where Loomis publicly acknowledged that this team was not just one player away.
This offseason has the fanbase excited-not necessarily for a Super Bowl run in 2026, but for what could happen in 2026 and beyond. The future for the Saints is actually looking very promising.
