Adam Schefter reports that Ty Simpson remains unsigned by the Los Angeles Rams as they continue to work on his rookie deal. Funnily enough the other first round quarterback taken in the 2026 NFL Draft, Fernando Mendoza, also remains unsigned.

Both quarterbacks signing with their respective teams seems like a matter of when not if. The similarities are interesting between the two as although Mendonza has a much greater chance to start in 2026 than Simpson, both quarterbacks will likely learn behind veteran starters with Mendoza behind Kirk Counsins, and Simpson behind Matthew Stafford.

It was back in May when Steven Ridings wrote about Simpson still not being signed. Here we are in June, and the situation appears the same. Will this derail L.A.'s season? Not likely, but it is likely a situation the franchise and the rookie would like to put behind them, so they can move forward into 2026 and beyond knowing that Simpson will be their potential backup if not more as time goes on.

The Rams recently extended their deal with Stafford, traded for Myles Garrett and re-worked his deal, so the Rams may now be able to focus more on Simpson with a better idea of how much money they have left.

They also could still be considering adding a veteran like Stefon Diggs, so the Rams may be trying to figure out how to pay Simpson what his team wants, while retaining the flexibility to add other pieces as needed.

The situation remains something to monitor until Simpson and the Rams formally reach an agreement.
