Former Lions CB charged with kidnappings now a free agent. Could that help him in court?

Terrion Arnold is facing serious jail time for charges of alleged armed robbery and kidnapping, but he is now free to sign with any team.

In an earlier pre-trial detention hearing, Judge Christopher C. Sabella of the Florida 13th Circuit Court released Arnold on a bond of $1 million. Prosecutors argued for him to wear a GPS ankle monitor, a request Sabella also "reluctantly" denied, based on the "unique situation" of Arnold's employment.

That employment ended when the Detroit Lions released Arnold on June 29. However, Arnold's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, argued that at least three teams have contacted Arnold about playing for him. Teams had until 4 p.m. ET on Monday, July 6 to claim the former Alabama cornerback. None did.

Another pre-trial detention hearing is scheduled for Friday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m. ET. The hearing will be remote.

Arnold was released from jail June 30. Prosecutors say Arnold arranged for three men, whom he wrongly suspected of stealing luxury goods and $100,000 in cash from him at an Airbnb rental, to be abducted and beaten in Tampa on Feb. 4.

Arnold faces three counts of kidnapping, three counts of armed robbery, one count of conspiracy to kidnap and one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery. The charges could carry a life sentence in prison.
