The Dallas Cowboys scrimmaged against the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday as the teams took a break from training against themselves, but unfortunately the NFL machine made seeing anything from the activities difficult impossible.

Times have changed and these days teams are more intense about scrimmages like these. Consider that just last week the Cowboys originally put out word that team periods were not to be filmed, but the powers that be made sure that things were allowed to carry on as normal shortly after that decree.

It should be noted that Tuesday's scrimmage was at the Rams' facility so it was their rules in place. Thanks to the hard-working members of the local beat we are able to piece together, loosely, happenings from the day, and it would appear that the Cowboys stood their ground against the Super Bowl favorites.

Here are some of the major takeaways. Also note that Myles Garrett was not in action for the Rams and that Jaishawn Barham (among others) was out for the Cowboys.

Unfortunately Jaydon Blue put the ball on the ground early on.

Brian Schottenheimer has been bouncing between offense and defense series. He started watching the defense.
Jaydon Blue had a fumble.
Malik Davis with a nice long run.

Shavon Revel! Twice over! Good day for the second-year corner.

Two other plays: Jalen Thompson got juked by Davante Adams after the catch for what would've been a solid gain. Puka Nacua had a step on a deep wheel route against Shavon Revel, but Revel caught up and it was incomplete. https://t.co/TKCgD30JkK

Cowboys CB Shavon Revel just had the most casual hit stick I've seen. Went to pop a Rams RB and sent him flying and forced a fumble.

- Joseph Hoyt (@JoeJHoyt) August 11, 2026

Shavon Revel having a great day. Playing physical. Forced a fumble and has had two big PBUs on plays where the Rams were clearly testing him. One on a downfield ball to Nacua, another on a fade from the 10-yard line to Nacua. Hasn't been perfect but it's been his best day in...

Rashan Gary showed up, but it was not enough early on.

Rashan Gary put the Rams first-team RT in the dirt on his way to almost sacking Stafford ... but Stafford just narrowly got the ball away for a short completion. #Cowboys

Tyler Guyton fared well, Terence Steele not so much.

60 been solid. 78 having some trouble

- Voch Lombardi (@VochLombardi) August 11, 2026

And unfortunately more of the bad from Steele.

Tooooouuuuuugggghhh day for 78

- Voch Lombardi (@VochLombardi) August 11, 2026

And in case you are curious, Steele was reportedly working against Byron Young.

Justin Barron got his hands on a Matthew Stafford pass. And a Stetson Bennett one. And then a third one!

Cowboys LB Justin Barron just had an INT of Matthew Stafford. Cowboys had their second-team LBs with the starters and Barron made a play. https://t.co/UJuAQeJQT6

- Joseph Hoyt (@JoeJHoyt) August 11, 2026

And Justin Barron just had his second INT! This time against Stetson Bennett - could've been a pick-6.

DeMarvion Overshown raced from the sideline to celebrate.

Barron continues to make plays. https://t.co/CFisXpZT6R

- Joseph Hoyt (@JoeJHoyt) August 11, 2026

Cowboys LB Justin Barron just had his third INT. Seriously.

- Joseph Hoyt (@JoeJHoyt) August 11, 2026

Thankfully the mothership grabbed some videos.

Unfortunately the Cowboys offense was also a bit stalled, particularly on the ground.

Tough day for Cowboys run game. Ceedee drew a PI, big catch down field for GP on the right side. Left side of o line holding up well. Play action game is not there at all

- Voch Lombardi (@VochLombardi) August 11, 2026

Overall a really solid showing from the defense.

Christian Parker is scheming his ass off rn in #Cowboys joint practice vs Rams.

multiple first-team *sacks* (3 so far) + two INTs + run defense is shutting down the RBs entirely.

i am IMPRESSED.

The mothership snuck in a video of George Pickens.

Dee Winters had not really stood out so far but that changed a bit, thankfully.

Dee Winters had a nice TFL where he wrapped and threw Blake Corum. Brian Schottenheimer, watching the defense, loved it.

- Joseph Hoyt (@JoeJHoyt) August 11, 2026

Unfortunately it was not a perfect day for Dak Prescott.

Dak Prescott threw a INT on a pass for George Pickens.

For what it's worth Tyler Guyton had to have his elbow looked at, but ultimately was fine.

Tyler Guyton, after missing a few snaps of team drills, is back at work after getting his right elbow checked.

- Calvin Watkins (@calvinwatkins) August 11, 2026

Again, this was a bit of a unique scrimmage for the Cowboys with so little video out to support the observations. Our thanks again to the media members in attendance.

It seems clear that Shavon Revel and Justin Barron were big winners while Terence Steele may have work to do. More than anything the fact that the Cowboys hung with the Rams is maybe the biggest takeaway.
