In coordination with the acquisition of Jones, the Chiefs waived defensive end Anthony Dunn. The rookie, an undrafted defender from Toledo, was wearing No. 94 this preseason. The signing of veteran defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah may have contributed to Dunn being the odd man out for Jones.
Cam Jones played in 38 games over the 2023 and 2024 seasons in Kansas City, mainly contributing on special teams. In 2024, he finished the regular season with the fourth-most special teams snaps on the team.
Between the regular season and postseason, Jones logged 38 tackles and one quarterback hit during his stint with the Chiefs. Last season, he appeared in 10 games with the Jets and tallied five tackles.
Jones will join a hampered linebacker room in Kansas City. Veteran Drue Tranquill is currently dealing with back spasms that have kept him out of practice; second-year linebacker Jeffrey Bassa recovered quickly from a groin injury and played well in the preseason opener, but the departure of linebacker Leo Chenal this offseason leaves the position thinner than usual.
New(ish) Chiefs LB Cam Jones is wearing No. 45 in his second stint with the team. Formerly wore 44 from 2023-24 with the club.
