Harrison Butker is known for some kicks that sailed past the uprights, but this one was right down the middle.

The Kansas City Chiefs kicker made his mark this NFL preseason: in the final seconds of the first half against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Butker trotted onto the field for a 69-yard field goal attempt.

And he drilled it.

It would be a record-breaking field goal from the veteran kicker, if it wasn't the preseason. Butker's make bested the record by one yard, which is currently held by the Jacksonville Jaguars' Cam Little - who made a 68-yard attempt against the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 2, 2025.

However, Butker's unofficial record isn't even official in the unofficial book.

That would also belong to Little, who made a 70-yard field goal during the 2025 NFL preseason.

If nothing else, Butker showed that he is healthy and his leg is back to full strength. Maybe the Chiefs won't hesitate to give him the chance to break the record in the regular season if that opportunity presents itself.

Longest field goal in NFL history

The record for the longest field goal is 68 yards, which was set by the Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little against the Las Vegas Raiders in Nov. 2025.

Prior to that, the record was held by formerBaltimore Ravenskicker Justin Tucker, who converted a 66-yard attempt against theDetroit Lionsin 2021.

Unofficially, the record belongs to Little for making a 70-yard attempt during the 2025 preseason. Unfortunately for him, preseason stats are not official and won't be printed in the history books.
