Josh Ezeudu ‘OK’ after injury scare; Sisi Mauigoa, Colton Hood to practice
Josh Ezeudu | USA TODAY Sports via Reuters ConThe New York Giants came out of Saturday's preseason game against the Miami Dolphins largely unscathed in terms of injuries.
That has been the case throughout training camp. The Giants have had bumps and bruises throughout a grueling summer, and have had a handful of players miss some practice time. Yet, there have been no major season-changing injuries.
We got out of it without anything major, which is a great accomplishment," Harbaugh said. You go down there [Miami] in two really intense days, two intense practices in three days, and you want to come through it healthy.
We've done that.We've had a great camp.Knock on wood."
You might say Harbaugh was tempting fate, but he had more to say about injuries, or the lack thereof.
We've had a great camp so far with injuries. We've had very few soft tissue injuries.I mean, almost really none, nothing of consequence, nothing serious that was in just a couple days," Harbaugh said. Nothing major so far.
People are probably saying, don't say anything, don't say anything.I'm not superstitious, but as Michael said in The Office,' I am a little stitious, so I'll just have to leave it at that."
Josh Ezeudu OK'The one player who looked like he might have suffered a noteworthy injury on Saturday was offensive lineman Josh Ezeudu, who struggled off the field after going down in the second half.
Harbaugh said Ezeudu got kicked in the back of the leg, and will be OK".
Not going to be any kind of a long-term injury," Harbaugh said. So a couple days, day-to-day type of deal.
Hopefully he'll be playing on Friday night [against the New York Jets]."
Ezeudu, who has spent most of his time at tackle in recent seasons after being drafted as a guard, has increasingly been used at right guard this summer. He appears to have a path to making the 53-man roster due to his versatility.
The position flex is the idea. You may have noticed he went back out to tackle in the fourth quarter, so the ability for him to play both guard and tackle, particularly on the right side, would be helpful for us, and that's our thought," Harbaugh said. He's kind of getting to the point now where we feel like he could swing, right tackle, right guard."
Harbaugh added that the Giants are kind of keeping him off the left side and just keeping him to the right side, and that helps a little bit with some of the techniques."
It's like a hitter. He's not a switch hitter right now on both sides," Harbaugh said. But he is playing both the inside position and the outside position, so we think he's ready for it, that he can handle it, and that gives us some position flexibility as a backup."
Francis Mauigoa, Colton Hood to returnHarbaugh said that rookies Sisi Mauigoa and Colton Hood will return to practice this week.
Mauigoa, the starting right guard suffered a stinger in Thursday's joint practice against the Dolphins and did not play in Saturday's preseason game. Hood, competing for time at cornerback, did not practice or play in Miami.
Malik Nabers and the red jerseyHarbaugh said that it is a possibility" that Malik Nabers will practice without the red, non-contact jersey at some point this week.
I don't think it's a necessity this week," Harbaugh said. We're still three weeks out from the game, the first game and then after that, but we'll see where he's at this week. We'll see how he feels tomorrow."
