Teams were informed about the extension on Sunday, with the Compensation Committee sharing a letter with full ownership. The committee is made up of NFL owners John Mara, Shad Khan, Jimmy Haslam, Michael Bidwill, Greg Penner and chairman Robert Kraft.
In the letter, the committee said they were pleased to announce" the extension, and that they had worked with an independent third-party compensation consultant" throughout the negotiation process, via ESPN's Adam Schefter.
To that end, the agreement is heavily performance based, with more than 95% of the total compensation tied to Roger's and the NFL's performance measured against various metrics and at the discretion of the Compensation Committee," the letter said, via Schefter. We believe we are very fortunate to have Roger at the helm for the next four years."
Goodell's new contract will end on March 31, 2031. Notably, March 2031 is also when the NFL's current collective bargaining agreement will expire.
