The Tampa Bay Buccaneers closed as small home underdog against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday in Week 3. Baker Mayfield injured his thumb in the fourth quarter and Tampa Bay lost 23-16, despite the Vikings generating only nine first downs and going 2-of-15 on third down. Minnesota also only scored one offensive touchdown.

Tampa Bay fell to 2-10 in its last 12 games dating back to last season. More significant for bettors, though, the Bucs again didn't cover the spread - the 12th straight game in which that's occurred.

The ATS loss set the NFL record for the most consecutive games a team has failed to cover the spread in the Super Bowl era. Tampa Bay surpassed the 11-game mark of spread-covering futility established by the 1983-84 Houston Oilers, per the Action Network.

The losses against the number have come in all shapes and sizes, as Tampa Bay has failed to cover in four games during the streak as an underdog, seven games at home and two as a road favorite.

The last time the Bucs won a game against the spread in Week 8 last season (Oct. 26, 2025) when Tampa Bay beat New Orleans 23-3 as a 3.5-point road favorite.

With Mayfield likely out, the Bucs opened as a 3-point home underdog against the Green Bay Packers. Rookie QB Jalon Daniels will get the start if Mayfield can't go.
