Jerry Jones sounds off on Cowboys' last-second loss to Ravens

Jerry Jones doesn't want to hear excuses.

The Dallas Cowboys owner is still wrapping his head around what transpired at the end of his team's loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Brazil. He spoke about it during a Sept. 29 appearance on "Shan and RJ" on 105.3 The Fan, saying the team is looking at what went wrong after they "were in such a good position to win that game."

There is no explanation that you're satisfied with. None. Let's be sure that we all understand that. They don't have one that they're satisfied with.

"We made mistakes during that time, there's no question about it. There's no explanation. There's an evaluation of how to not make the same mistakes again, which is what you should be doing."

Jones wants the team to acknowledge the mistakes and use it as a learning experience.

"We can't get that back," Jones said. "No way to get it back. What you can do is use it - if there's any aspect of it that you want to just not even think happened. Any aspect of it, use it to get better."

An improbable ending, the Ravens managed to get into field goal range for the game-winning kick despite having just seven seconds left in regulation.

That was set up by a botched series of plays on the goal line, when the Cowboys failed to score the go-ahead touchdown. Dak Prescott and Brian Schottenheimer have been criticized for poor clock management, primarily for burning a timeout so early.

The quarterback threw the ball away on third-and-goal. Dallas settled for a field goal, sparking the beginning of the end.

When asked if he agreed with Schottenheimer's decision to kick and not attempt to take the lead with a touchdown on fourth down, Jones agreed the head coach made the right call.

Even with the Cowboys sitting at 1-2 after three weeks, Jones believes there is reason for optimism - especially after the Philadelphia Eagles' loss on "Monday Night Football" and some unfortunate injury luck for the New York Giants.

We are very much in the hunt," Jones said. "We're just getting started. ... We will be better because of the experience that we had with Baltimore and what happened to us at the end of the game.

"We really are just at the beginning of what I hope is an exciting year for us."

The Cowboys will now try to get back in the win column in Week 4 against the winless Houston Texans.
