Following Sunday's loss by our Miami Dolphins to the New England Patriots, I asked the following question:

What are your overall takeaways from this afternoon's fourth game of the season between our Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots? What are the positive and negative takeaways from this afternoon's game, as they apply to the team overall and to individual units and/or players?

Below are some of your answers and thoughts on the game-

Miami7 has a few thoughts-

Willis was up & down, inconsistent. I don't understand why he didn't try to utilize his legs at all - there were a couple opportunities. I also don't understand why he's under Center so much? Without a better understanding of exactly what NE was showing defensively, it just seemed' as though the offense ran smoother outta the gun. The pick was unfortunate but another was an easy one that was dropped.

OL had a bad day. Brewer wasn't himself & Savi gave up some whopper whiffs. Kingston was either overmatched or completely lost on a few. Paul's been solid but is showing a 2 penalty per game penchant that's getting to be too commonplace. As a whole they failed to open much running room.

Chop & Uche played pretty well but the Interior DL was terrible. Grant is scarily just, not good at the point in the middle. I thought earlier this year that IDL was going to be a strength? Not so much....

Ollie's Ollie and all that....love the fire - HATE THE FIRE!!! He's got a big mouth. He's immature. And HE'S COSTLY in an emotional way. He dances a fine line, but he's a bit overreactive and kind of a punk, always needing to yap & be heard. He should sit to start the game vs Lions....except for the fact that Jaylen Wright STINKS! But, it IS a teaching -and-learning opportunity. The kid needs to grow up.

That whiff non-sack from Chris Johnson was SO egregiously bad that it looked as if the fix was in or something? At least NE shanked the FG after, but that was really strange looking' - how he alligator armed a sure sack? The Safeties had another sporadic/up&down day. The down's hurt more than the up's provided.

I thought time mgt. on our last TD drive was absolutely TERRIBLE. We were going to need 2 scores....quite possibly 2 TD scores! With a little over 10 minutes we're huddling and walking back after plays, taking WAY too much time. I'm not saying go no huddle, but there should have been with much better rhythm/pace to save time AND keep NE on their heels a bit.

We got beat by a better team. Had our chances but made costly mistakes at the most inopportune times. I don't even understand how that non-1st down call for NE was overturned? I went to get a drink and came back & NE had the ball again? No angle I saw was conclusive to overturn? Guess I missed whatever they saw on review? Whatever - they fought/played hard. Made some mistakes that really cost em'. They were in the game the whole way - the 2 pt. conversion was a poorly designed play (they got some work to do there).

FinsSince70 says it's "coming together."

Just got home and cleaned up. Soggy drive, tailgate and game.

  1. This team is coming together...they play with effort. I'm proud of what they are putting together
  2. I wish dolphins fans put in the same effort. Bunch of sellout fans give the opponents a homefield advantage. I hate it.
  3. We had a shot. They were in it till the end. On to Detroit.

Dolphster says the negatives and positives are obvious.

Kind of stating the obvious here, but the positive takeaway is that the team plays hard, doesn't give up, and is showing toughness and improvement even if the record doesn't reflect it. The negative takeaway is what everyone also already knows. The team is young, inexperienced, and will be digging out of the hole the previous regime put them in for a while.

dedstrk is happy with the team's week-over-week improvement.

My takeaway is they played better than I thought they would. They have gotten better every week imo. That says a lot to me.

phinette is happy they are not a Colts fan right now.

As everyone has said, the team competes well and is improving on both sides of the ball. We just lack depth and elite playmakers. I sure feel better about our team than the Colts' fans probably feel about their team right now. As always

Wildfin22 sees some bias in the refereeing.

So Washington receiver was short but Patriots receiver made the LTG

dolfan8181 is another who has some issues with the refs.

get another stop on 4th down .. see raiders game for the refs to pull the okie doke.. im so sick of watching games being stolen its unreal

Wildfin22 has lost the ability to believe any longer. Fair!

Just can't understand how we played so well in the first half. Then just downright stink up the field in the 3rd quarter. But I'm realizing that we just aren't talented enough to beat any good teams. No matter how much they play hard or execute on offense. Sooner or later the lack of true talent will show up. Malik Willis just isn't good enough but he's also not experienced enough. This team may turn this around but this franchise has lost for so many seasons that I truly don't believe in them turning things around. We are on the Cleveland Browns level losing season after season. But like I'll always say until I die FINSUP!!

Dolphins84te says bring on the high draft picks.

Glad we lost = higher draft pick.

Second-half adjustments (or lack therof) are killing us again this season.

I suspect that there's never going to be a consensus, especially during a painful season like this one. I'm personally trying to take it in stride and watch how all the rookies are progressing. As always, thank you all for participating in our Phinsider Question Of The Day.
