The Scalevo, An Electric Wheelchair Capable of Climbing or Descending Stairs With Tank-Like Treads

The Scalevo is an electric wheelchair capable of climbing or descending stairs with tank-like treads mounted beneath the chair's two balanced wheels. The project is a collaboration between students at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and the Zurich University of the Arts. The team working on the Scalevo hopes to be able to increase the speed at which the device can climb stairs to one second per step, which they say is the maximum speed possible with the current hardware configuration.
