You can bet on all kinds of stuff. Who is going to win the Super Bowl? Will the opening coin toss of the game come up heads or tails? But one thing is clearly off-limits: elections. In America it's mostly illegal to bet on the next president. But why?

On today's show: two stories from when people were allowed to bet on the elections of some of the most important positions in the world. What happened, and why betting on elections might not have been such a bad thing.
