The NBN Co says it needs more copper to meet demand but prime minister says existing copper network is in much better condition than was expected
The prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull has defended the national broadband network's purchase of 1,800km of copper to deliver his vision of fibre to the node.
The company told a Senate estimates hearing it has so far purchased $14m worth of copper and will need more to meet future demand.
