The Fun Activities Employed to Keep Octopi Entertained at the Steinhart Aquarium in San Francisco

Patrick Lee, a manager at the Steinhart Aquarium at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco explains how they keep their highly intelligent and inquisitive octopi engaged, entertained and busy so that they don't get bored and destructive, much like children on a long road trip.

We try to think creatively on a daily basis to provide them with the most stimulating environment. you want to keep it positive, keep them engaged and keep challenging them by providing them with toys and puzzles. It's something that they can work on while also providing them with interaction with their keepers, such as tactile sessions where we test their tentacles and their mantel. It also helps to foster relationship of trust between the keeper and the animals.
