Rate of aggressive breast cancers that have already moved to other parts of the body has not fallen in decades despite screening programmes, study finds

A new report has raised fresh questions about the value of mammograms, with the United States recording no reduction in the rate of cancers that have already spread far beyond the breast before they are found.

The report, in Thursday's New England Journal of Medicine, is by three cancer specialists and is based on federal statistics going back to the 1970s.
