Christmas came early for us folks at Planet Money. The text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement is out. It is hard to understate how a big a deal this is. It affects 12 countries around the Pacific rim including the U.S., Canada, Vietnam and Japan. It sets the rules for more than a third of the world's trade. And until yesterday, it was a secret. But now that all 30 chapters and 6,000 or so pages of tiny-fonted spreadsheets and legalese is there for the scrutinizing, we dove in.
We gave each of our reporters a magnifying glass, red pens and one day, 24 hours, to find something fascinating buried in the text. How hard could that be, right?
Today on the show: We tell you what we found in there... and a way countries can get around it.
For those of you who want to read it yourselves. Here's the link. Enjoy.
