Black Colors and Contrast: LCD TV vs. LG OLED TV
LG, a respected leader in consumer electronics, appliances and mobile devices, has introduced their brand new OLED TV, a revolutionary 4K television that utilizes OLED technology to render even the darkest of black hues perfectly, without bleeding, blurring or ghosting due to the fact that each and every pixel of OLED technology is its own light source.
What makes this possible is the fact that OLED needs no backlight. Each individual pixel can emit light on its own. This enables OLED to create the perfect shades of black, and an infinite contrast ratio, both of which would be impossible with a backlight. For these reasons, the shift to OLED TV will be just as revolutionary for display technology as the advent of the smartphone was for the mobile phone industry.
LG demonstrated how crisp the dark hues present themselves on their OLED TV versus older LED technology by comparing the latter to a starry sky polluted with artificial light and the former to a crisp clear night full of twinkling stars.
The graphics below are intended to show the effects of light pollution. On the left side, we can easily see how city lights can make it harder to see the stars in the night sky. On the right, we can see that LG OLED TV is most similar to a night sky free of light pollution. An image of bright dots on a black background looks far more crisp and clear on an LG OLED TV, while it is rendered blurry and less visible on an LCD TV.

LCD TV vs. LG OLED TV
In an episode of the LG OLED TV Interview Series, renowned mandala artist Kathy Klein spoke about how the television portrayed her brightly colored work.
My work doesn't contain anything artificial, so only natural colors are expressed in my art. Working with OLED TV was really fascinating, because it was able to display my artwork distortion-free. OLED really looks natural. These displays are able to reflect the true colors of my art.
