London zoo conducts its annual animal stocktake – in pictures

Zookeepers have started the annual headcount, which takes a week to complete. They will tally up every mammal, bird, reptile, fish and invertebrate from 750 different species for the audit, a requirement for the zoo's licence.

All of the information is shared with zoos around the world via the International Species Information System, where it is used to manage worldwide breeding programmes for endangered animals.
