As much as I would love to see what NVIDIA could do with Arm's design team, I don't want it to have control over the industry. Neither should you.Update, July 31 (9:50 am ET): Bloomberg reports that talks between NVIDIA and SoftBank have progressed and a deal could be reached in the next few weeks.I'm an NVIDIA fan. The company is best known for making uber-powerful GPUs that almost single-handedly drive the gaming industry, but it also makes things like machine learning servers, self-driving cars, robots, and the best Android TV box ever made. I think all of their products are great and even enjoyed using NVIDIA-powered phones before Qualcomm drove the company out of the industry. I'm Team NVIDIA for most things. Not this thing, though.Call me a fanboy, call me whatever, but I like the company and the things it makes. But I hate the idea of NVIDIA controlling Arm, the company that makes the reference design that every phone chipmaker uses to build processors. This is all...

It's never too early to get your kids excited about music, and what better way than putting an instrument in their hands? Learning (and teaching) guitar can seem intimidating at first, but there are plenty of small, short-scale models that make it much more approachable for beginners and kids. For our money, the Martin LX1 "Little Martin" is a nearly perfect acoustic guitar for kids, but there are plenty of cheaper options out there.Best Overall: Martin LX1 Little MartinThe Little Martin isn't the cheapest guitar when it comes to getting started, but it offers everything you could ask for in a simple acoustic, and brandishes the famous Martin name. The Little Martin is a 3/4 scale guitar with a 23-inch scale length, meaning it's smaller and easier to play than most acoustics, making it perfect for young musicians still building calluses in their fingers. The HPL mahogany back and sides of the guitar give the LX1 the warm tones that Martin is legendary for, and the sitka spruce t...

Let's take a trip down memory lane and see how Sony's designed its PlayStation controllers.I've talked before about how the PS5 is a drastic design departure from previous PlayStation consoles, but I've never focused on the DualSense controller, itself a major shakeup to the DualShock line. PlayStation's controllers have all had similar form factors, so much so that the DualShock 2 and 3 are nearly identical. The DualSense is very clearly the odd one out in the family. Reigning NL East champs the Braves welcome division rivals the New York Mets on Saturday, hoping to replicate their series win at Citi Field earlier this week. The Braves sealed their first series victory of the season with a crushing 14-1 final, a defeat that the Mets will be desperate to make amends for at SunTrust Park. That match saw Braves star Darby Swanson live up to some of the pre-season hype that has some pundits tipping him to be one of 2020's breakout players, with the 26-year-old notching up five RBIs. He went on to follow that impressive display by going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, an RBI, plus a stolen base in Atlanta's midweek 7-4 win over Tampa Bay.Freddie Freeman also looks in fine form following his recovery from Covid-19, notching up four hits and drives in three runs for the Braves' during Wednesday's win over the Rays. The Mets travel to Atlanta having rebuilt some of their dented confidence by shelling the Red Sox for 18 runs during the first two ...

Strong performance in China allowed Huawei to overtake Samsung and become the world's largest smartphone manufacturer. When Huawei's trade ban went into effect last year, the Chinese manufacturer avowed to posting strong sales figures in spite of losing access to Google Mobile Services, including the Play Store, Gmail, Google Drive, YouTube, and others. The trade ban effectively killed Huawei's global ambitions, and while the brand launched the Mate 30 and the P40 series without Google services, they weren't well-received in global markets.Huawei's performance in China over the last 12 months is an entirely different matter.
