I used to love having a fingerprint sensor — now, well-done face unlock ranks above it.Aside from battery life, perhaps the largest complaint about the Pixel 4 is its face unlock system. Not only did it require a larger top bezel on the phone, with a seemingly needlessly complicated array of sensors, but at launch it also had next to no support from developers. That really rubbed me the wrong way back when it launched. From my Pixel 4 XL review, back in October: Despite how awesome face unlock is, it has limitations that are incredibly frustrating. The technology is clearly sound and secure. But face unlock's problem isn't technology, it's app developers.Well, it took a really long time to get here, but now I'm finally in love with face unlock. After several months and a lot of complaints from owners, there's now a critical mass of popular and high-profile apps that support Google's face unlock. It's improved to the point where there isn't a single app that I need biometri...

And it's worth every penny.I was late to the party with Dead Cells when it launched on PC in 2018, but I had heard nothing but good things before I pulled the trigger on buying it for myself. I typically don't like roguelikes, but I do love a good challenge. This game packs so many different styles into a punishingly difficult side-scrolling adventure and I really enjoyed it for what it is.But odds are, you've heard about, played, or seen Dead Cells before now. The game isn't anything new, but it just dropped on the Play Store last week and not only does the port keep the original game's spirit, but adds several optimizations and improvements for mobile. From auto-hit mode to stellar touch controls, this is a perfect example of how mobile ports should be done. You're going to die in Dead Cells, and you're probably going to die a lot — but that's part of the fun. When you do, you're tossed back to the beginning of the game and have to redo the progress you lost and hopefull...

This isn't working — something needs to change.Of all the Android manufacturers out there, the one that I find the most interesting to watch is Motorola. This is a company that's gone through a lot of change over the years, starting its Android journey with the whole DROID phase in the 2000s, then its operation under Google ownership, and now being managed by Lenovo since 2014.Just like any company, Motorola has had its fair share of highs and lows throughout all of this time. Specifically as a Lenovo-owned entity, one of my ongoing gripes with Motorola has been its crowded lineup of available smartphones. What used to be a laser-focused brand that put meaning and weight behind its releases has turned into something that seems to churn out a new phone every couple of months.Having lots of choices is never a bad thing, but the way Motorola is going about things is both confusing and ultimately damning to its customers. On the note of confusion, Motorola currently has six dis...
