Smart assistants like Amazon Alexa are becoming more popular than ever, and headphone makers are jumping onboard to offer it as a signature built-in feature. They're growing in number and variance, but the Sony WH1000XM3 stand out because of the combination of comfort, sound quality and versatility in bringing Alexa into the fold.Best Overall: Sony WH1000XM3Sony really should look into different nomenclature for its headphones, but this collection of letters and numbers has etched itself into audio circles as a force to be reckoned with. That it can make a good pair of headphones isn't surprising, considering Sony's pedigree for sound, but they're also effective in a variety of ways. The excellent active noise-canceling (ANC) performance is augmented further by the custom sound options via Sony's Connect app. These headphones aren't a one-size-fits-all from a sonic perspective, even if their lightweight frame and comfy earpads make wearing them feel like they are, but they com...

In space, everyone can hear you laugh. The good news is Space Force — the Netflix series, not the actual Space Force — is coming. (OK, the actual Space Force is still a thing, too.) The bad news? It's not here until May 29.The also good news? We now have our first teaser trailer. And it's everything we hoped it would be.Space Force, if you've somehow missed the news, is an offshoot of the United States Air Force, much like how the Marines are part of the Navy. (Though please don't ever push that fact in front of a Marine. It won't end well.) It's a real thing, and it's actually a necessary thing, I'd argue. (Read Jim Sciutto's The Shadow War for a good explainer of why.)But, yeah, the name still sounds a little silly. (Then again, the Air Force started out as the U.S. Army Air Corps, too.) And, yeah, the folks who announced the thing tend to take themselves a little too seriously, too. And that brings us here, to Netflix, Steve Carrell, and Space Force. The series is ...

Tactile feedback is just as important as visual feedback when you're touching a flat sheet of glass.Haptics is a term that you hear tossed around whenever a company that makes phones either does a really good job or a really poor one. What it means is simply how the vibration motor functions to make your phone vibrate when you want it to vibrate. Like everything else about a modern smartphone, though, it's not that simple. Haptics are difficult to get right, yet they make all the difference when it comes to the user experience. What are haptics, exactly?Inside every phone, there is a tiny motor with a weight attached to the shaft in a way that makes things off balance. When the motor spins, it vibrates inside your phone — you've seen this in action if you're ever had your phone in silent + vibrate mode and gotten a phone call. But there is so much more that you might not even recognize is going on from that little vibrating motor whenever you touch your phone screen. Tap...

The Ring Alarm 10-piece wireless security system has dropped to $179.99 at Costco. This deal is exclusively for Costco members, so you will need to join the warehouse to benefit from these savings. That's $40 off its regular price and the best deal around. Best Buy has a 5-piece system going for this price (although it does include a free Echo Dot). This is the 1st generation of the Ring Alarm system. The company released a 2nd generation just a few weeks ago, and you can see how the two versions compare right here. The problem with the 2nd generation is that it's more expensive, especially compared to a price drop like today's deal. The 5-piece version is $20 more expensive than Costco's 10-piece kit on sale here. Getting the extra contact sensors would cost you another $100.The 10-piece kit comes with the base station, a keypad, a motion detector, a range extender, and six contact sensors.
