I use a lot of phones and see a lot of phone deals throughout the year. The only one I can unreservedly recommend during the 2019 Black Friday season is the $299 Pixel 3a, or the $379 Pixel 3a XL.Yes, the $549 OnePlus 7 Pro is compelling, as is the $549 Galaxy S10e, but even discounted, those are too expensive for many people. At $299, the Pixel 3a is an impulse purchase, something you're likely willing to try on yourself or a loved one without too much hesitation. Here's why.Unlike the Pixel 4, which pushes the envelope in many ways and fails in most, the Pixel 3a is a good old-fashioned budget smartphone that just gets the job done. It's made of hardened plastic that won't break when you drop it, and its processor doesn't push the envelope of speed and efficiency.Yet, when you use it, you forget about all of that. That plastic actually looks nicer than the metal used on other Pixel phones, especially in the Purple-ish color that I've grown to love, and that mid-range process...

The cult classic from Double Fine is back! Here's what you need to know about Psychonauts 2.The Game Awards may celebrate the incredible accomplishments of the industry every year, but its show in 2015 captured the attention of fans for a different reason, and it started with an unexpected trailer.Because of the enthusiasm of Psychonauts' fans, Double Fine Productions announced a sequel to the cult classic platformer. There was a slight catch though: the studio needed a little help from fans to make Psychonauts 2 a reality.Crowdfunded successInstead of taking the usual approach and crowdfunding the game through Kickstarter, Double Fine did something slightly different. The studio chose to create its own crowdfunding platform known as Fig, where a fan's investment can earn them exclusive rewards and even shares from a game's sales. With the goal of raising $3.3 million to fund development, over 24,000 backers pledged towards the campaign to raise over $3.8 million in total a ...

Not all great headphones have to be super expensive. And not all cheap headphones have to be bad. Sometimes you have to find the middle ground. The Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2 is a perfect example of this with superb sound quality, long battery life, and are super comfortable to use for long periods.Best Overall: Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2The Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2 are by far the best value when it comes to headphones in this price range. They have physical media controls that are super solid, long battery life with up to 30 hours on a single charge, and are ultra-comfortable for long term use.In terms of sound quality, the BackBeat Pro 2 offer a rather neutral mid-range and treble, with a modest bass boost to give it an overall warmer sound signature. Making it suitable for more bass-heavy genres such as EDM, hip-hop, or rap, but with the neutrality of the mid-range and treble, they're versatile enough to be good in all genres. For comfort, the BackBeat Pro 2 are decent....

From Powerbeats Pro to Bose QC 35 II, the discounts make it hard to decide which headphones to buy.I may or may not be turning into a headphone junky. Now's the best time to add the Razer Phone 2 to your gaming collection! If you're a hardcore fan of mobile gaming, chances are you've already been eyeing the gaming smartphones that have rolled out over the past couple of years. One of the coolest phones I had the privilege of reviewing was the Razer Phone 2, a phone designed for gaming and entertainment with a 120Hz refresh rate and massive front-facing speakers. While it was admittedly a hard sell at $800 compared to other phones in that bracket, the price has steadily dropped. This Black Friday has seen the price drop even further to just $300 at retailers such as Best Buy. Here's what you need to know about carrier throttling of unlimited plans. You're probably already aware that all the major U.S. carriers offer an unlimited plan and that they have imposed a limit on it if you use too much data in a single billing period. If you're not, we're talking about wording like this in the carrier terms of service: During congestion, customers using>50GB/mo. may notice reduced speeds; Essentials customers may notice speeds lower than other customers. That's T-Mobile's, but every carrier has something similar in the contract terms that say the same thing — use too much and we can stop giving you that high-speed LTE data that you know and love and toss you back to those 2007 3G data speeds. Users call it throttling, carriers call it prioritization, but no matter what it's called, it means the same thing: some users may get slowed down if they use too much data in a single month. That has a lot of vague wording in it — some, may, a small fr...

There are affordable Android phones, and then there are Android Go phones. Android Go devices are designed to be as cheap as possible and run a special version of Android that's created specifically with lower-end specs in mind. Android Go handsets are great starter or backup phones, and these are the best ones you can buy in 2019 — including the Nokia 1 as our top overall pick.Best Overall: Nokia 1As an overall package, we think the Nokia 1 stands out as the best pick — especially for our U.S. readers. The Nokia name is often associated with top-notch hardware, and that legacy holds up surprisingly well with the cheap Nokia 1. The polycarbonate used for the phone's body is sturdy and offers a good in-hand feel, making it feel a lot more trustworthy than the price tag would suggest. While large bezels flank the display, the 5-inch display keeps everything nice and compact, there's a microSD card slot for expanding the base 8GB of storage up to 128GB, and you get a...

Best answer: Based on anecdotal evidence over the years, most people do report that games download faster while their PlayStation 4 is in rest mode.Upgrade your console: PlayStation 4 Pro ($300 at Amazon)Go wired: 50ft Ethernet Cable ($10 at Amazon)How do we know it downloads faster? This isn't exactly something that Sony advertises like, "Hey! Put your console in rest mode to download games faster." It's not a feature in that regard. This is just something that a good portion of PlayStation users have noticed. It's all anecdotal, but most people will tell you that there is a noticeable difference between download speeds in rest mode versus while the console is on. Rest mode, for the most part, appears to download games quicker. Why does it download faster? The thought process behind it is this: Since your PS4 is in rest mode, it doesn't need to be running background apps or using other network features. With these suspended during this time, you'll tend to notice download ...

The AirPods Pro aren't a terribly great value on Android but the ANC and comfort may entice you to pick them up over other truly wireless earbuds. The AirPods Pro are an Apple product which means they'll work best when paired to an Apple device such as an iPhone or an iPad. However, the AirPods Pro still function like any other Bluetooth earbud on Android.Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)/Transparency ModeThe biggest reason to grab the AirPods Pro instead of any other earbuds is for their fantastic combination of ANC and transparency mode the buds offer. The ANC performance is surprisingly good for their size and they can easily be the only pair of earbuds you travel with, especially if you're tight on space. The AirPods Pro are great at blocking out low-end, and midrange noises, but struggle with higher pitched noises. However, that's expected as most other ANC headphones and earbuds face the same problem. If we had to draw parallels to over-ear headphones, the AirPods Pro are ve...

What do you buy if you don't want AirPods? That's the subject of an increasingly fierce debate among headphone and earbud enthusiasts around the internet, exacerbated in recent months by a slate of new entrants that force you, as the consumer, to pick between many strengths and a few weaknesses. That's because no company has got it entirely right. Some true wireless earbuds sound great but sacrifice portability or battery life. Some are tiny but tinny while others are feature-filled and expensive. Some charge via Micro-USB and others can't stand a drop of rain. But if you're like me, after the reviews are over you just have to settle on a pair of earbuds to use as you walk around the city, as you sit on trains and buses and planes, or as you just do life. For the past year or so, that pair for me has been the Jabra Elite 65t. Despite charging via Micro-USB, they ended up coming closest to the right balance of comfort, sound quality, battery life, and durability, and now their seque...
