Engines fired at the Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. The race consisted of 188 laps with Stages going 60-60-68. Chase Elliott won Stage 1, his third stage victory at Talladega and first of the season. Aric Almirola beat out Elliott for the Stage 2 win in a photo finish. There was 8 total cautions and the race ended with an overtime finish. Kyle Busch crossed the finish line as cars crashed behind him. The race ended under caution after Bubba Wallace got around following contact from Ryan Blaney. Blaney finished second while Chase Briscoe placed third. The victory marks Busch's second of the year and first at Talladega in 15 years.
Atlanta United and Chicago Fire FC faced off in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Both teams presented a slow start to the match with no shots on goal until the 13th minute. After a beautiful pass by Brooks Lennon, Giorgos Giakoumakis scored from the center of the box to the bottom left corner for Atlanta United to take a 1-0 lead. Moving into the 2nd half, the score remained 1-0, but Chicago’s possession picked up and they managed to score in the 90th minute when Kacper Przybylko finessed a right-footed shot from the center of the box. In the ninth minute of stoppage time, Atlanta United sealed their victory after an unfortunate own goal in Chicago’s net. The score would finish 2-1.
The New Jersey Generals forced THREE turnovers and held the Pittsburgh Maulers to just 166 total yards in their 20-3 victory in week two of the 2023 USFL season.

The Birmingham Stallions faced off against the Memphis Showboats in week two of the USFL season. Alex McGough took command early and didn't let go as he finished with 302 passing yards and four TDs in the victory. Jace Sternberger provided the Stallions with a reliable option as he finished with 126 receiving yards and one touchdown. The Memphis Showboats tried to get the offense going but it didn't amount to much. The Showboats were held to 183 total yards and forced Brady White to throw an interception in the loss. The Stallions look to keep the momentum going next week, while the Showboats look to bounce back after the tough loss.
Saturday afternoon at Talladega was an eventful day, to say the least, there were 11 cautions, two red flags and two massive wrecks which left two cars flipped upside down. Justin Allgaier won Stage 1 and Jeb Burton won Stage 2. Burton went on to win the Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega Superspeedway. Making it his second career victory at Talladega and the first win for Jordan Anderson Racing.
