To be fair, it was originally young adult fiction, so they had to keep the plot simple, include a couple characters who harrass the protagonist and then die horrible deaths, and a love story. Otherwise, who would read it? Besides, we were all to entranced by the lovely Jennifer Lawrence kicking ass with a bow and arrow to notice the plot sucked. :)
