John Dvorak had a real nasty column about storing stuff on someone else's cloudy computer back in 2011 or so. Not only did people's pictures disappear when the photo storing "cloud" place disappear, but the users found out that the "privacy" at another cloud storage place wasn't so good either, when pictures of some kids skinny-dipping got really, really popular.
Nowadays you can buy a WD 4 TB drive for about $110 on sale. There's good freeware to automatically back up drives and folders.
