Hmm, Pixie never did show any guilt over Bruno leaving the company"
a TranscriptBrunoPeg, you're so vibrant and smart, and I'm so lucky to have met you.
Peggy
And you've got stamina that could shame a racehorse.
Bruno
Is that all you see in me?
Peggy
Hey. It's important. No one else can keep up with me. Or take proper care of my needs. But it's not your most endearing trait.
Bruno
And what's that?
Peggy
You're "God's Gift To Women."
Bruno
That's endearing? Of course, I'm not really serious about it, but doesn't it bother you that I'm an incurable flirt?
Peggy
Oh, you're very serious about it. You flirt with every woman to some extent. It's not to get into her pants. You don't tear into a woman's self-worth. You praise them, encourage them, and when you do push, they react in a way that ultimately empowers them.
Bruno
I never saw it that way. I get kicked and slapped a lot. And I caused those receptionists at GibsCo to quit.
Peggy
Didn't one get up the nerve to enlist in the Army after you'd told her she'd do great? And another went back to school, didn't she. And did the third one not go find a more challenging job once you convinced her she was wasting her talent? And when a woman smacks you, does she crawl away, or strut?
And you don't just go for the pretty ones. You find something admirable in every woman, regardless of looks or age. You even have something nice to say about any man you meet.
You know why you get asked over for dinner? My grandmother sings when she hears you're coming. She hadn't done that since my uncle and cousins got killed in that awful wreck. And the way you reduce Mother into giggling fits is just priceless. Even Daddy likes that about you.
Admit it, I was your first, and I know you'd never actually cheat on me.
Bruno
Yes and yes.
Peggy
And I haven't even had to threaten you with emasculation if you did stray.
Bruno
Of course not. Your father covered that.
