Galaxy S20 teardown shows off plethora of cameras, double-decker motherboard

It's teardown time! iFixit has gotten its hands on Samsung's latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S20, and has ripped it open for our viewing pleasure.

Cameras are a big focus of the Galaxy S20, and iFixit reports that Samsung is using its own camera modules for the S20 instead of modules from Sony, which is practically the industry default. The new camera modules have these interesting cone-shaped extensions on them, which is a lot different from the normal box shape of Sony sensors. iFixit gives a great look at the Galaxy S20 Ultra's 4X periscope zoom lens in the video teardown-you can see that the lens can physically slide inside its box container, which is really neat.

The motherboard is radically different compared to the one in the Galaxy S10. Instead of the skinny motherboard design in last year's flagship, the S20 has a double-stacked motherboard, allowing it to stretch the board design more into the third dimension and pack in more chips into a smaller footprint. A lot of chips inside the phone are dedicated to 5G, with iFixit spotting the X55 modem on the board and several mmWave antenna modules scattered around the phone.
