Clashes in Corsica after prison attack on nationalist figure

Hundreds protest in main cities after jailed killer Yvan Colonna is assaulted by fellow detainee

Violent clashes broke out overnight between protesters and police on France's Mediterranean island of Corsica amid anger over the assault in prison of a nationalist figure.

Yvan Colonna, who is serving a life sentence for the assassination in 1998 of a senior regional official, Claude Erignac, is in a coma after being beaten in jail on 2 March by a fellow detainee serving time for terror offences.
