Liz Truss said she was 'absolutely' committed to making no cuts to public spending, during a series of heated exchanges with Labour leader, Keir Starmer, at prime minister's questions on Wednesday. The prime minister has been under public pressure since the chancellor's mini-budget was met with turmoil in financial markets, the pound to sliding against the dollar and mortgage rates increasing.
Starmer also challenged Truss on the impact of the mini-budget on mortgages and financial markets. 'The Tories went on a borrowing spree sending mortgage rates through the roof and for two million homeowners their fixed-rate deals are coming to an end next year,' he said. 'They're worried sick and everybody in this house knows it'
