Several people have been lucky to escape after a faulty e-bike battery sparked a fire that engulfed a Sydney beachside apartment.

The e-bike had been left to charge in the bedroom of a North Bondi unit overnight, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said on Friday while warning of the risks posed by lithium-ion batteries.
