A man accused of killing a young woman in western Victoria has faced court after her body was found inside a burnt out car near Ballarat.

Lachlan Young, 21, appeared in the Ballarat magistrates court on Tuesday, where his lawyer claimed police swooped very quickly" on him and flagged he may apply for bail.
