Homicide detectives will investigate the death of a woman found in Melbourne's Maribyrnong River after two bodies were discovered on Sunday.

A member of the public spotted the body of a man near Saltriver Place in Footscray at about 9am on Sunday. About 90 minutes later, a passerby noticed the body of a woman near Smithfield Road in Flemington.
