When Amazon brought a fulfillment center to Tijuana's Nueva Esperanza neighborhood in Mexico, the business community praised the new addition as a welcome boost to the local economy. A city press release said the new warehouse would contribute to the ongoing (post-pandemic) economic recovery." Three years later, residents the Nueva Esperanza neighborhood say little has changed; the community still lacks paved roads, drinkable water and a functional storm drain system.
