Result upholds Financial Conduct Authority's lifetime ban on former Barclays CEO holding senior City post

The former Barclays chief executive Jes Staley has lost a legal challenge against the UK regulator, leaving him banned from the City for life for misleading the watchdog over his relationship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The case centred on a letter that Barclays sent to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in 2019, which declared that the pair did not have a close relationship" and that Staley's last contact with Epstein was well before" he joined Barclays four years earlier in 2015.
