2026 marks another independence milestone for the US

Across the US, celebrations are underway to mark 250 years since the country declared independence and launched the fight to break free from British colonial rule. But the Fourth of July also marked 80 years since the US granted independence to a colony of its own: the Philippines. It was called the Treaty of Manila.
