The politics of the Berlin Pride attack

A week after a deadly attack on a Berlin Pride event, Germany is grappling with how to respond. The attacker, who killed one woman and injured 31 others, had previously come to the attention of authorities over extremist activity. Since the attack, Chancellor Friedrich Merz has promised tougher security laws, while the far-right AfD party has accused the government of failing to protect the public from "Islamist violence."
