Is Germany's chancellor on his way out?

He's facing the lowest approval ratings for any Chancellor since records began. Friedrich Merz, who was due to give a speech at the UNGA this week, has canceled the trip to remain in Berlin after what he openly admits were disastrous results in two state elections. The result in one state - the northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - was the worst his party, the CDU, has seen in state elections since 1949. There are calls for him to resign.
