The first round of Brazilian elections over the weekend produced two leading presidential contenders. A runoff will be held later this month between the incumbent, leftist President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva - known simply as Lula - and Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, a close ally of US President Donald Trump. The Trump administration's open backing of Bolsonaro has soured US relations with Brazil, and spurred Lula to warn against US interference in the upcoming elections.
