The number of babies born in Japan fell below 1 million in 2016 for the first time since records began in the 19th century, underscoring the demographic challenges facing the nation with an aging and declining population.

There were 976,979 babies born last year in Japan, the fewest since the government started tracking the data in 1899, according to labor ministry data released on Friday.

India had 25.6 million births in 2016.
China had 18.5 million births in 2016.
Nigeria had 10-11 million births in 2016 (Nigeria has especially inaccurate demographics)
Indonesia had 4.5 million births in 2016.
The USA has almost 4 million births in 2016.

The overall world population will exceed 7.5 billion in 2017.
