Buckingham Palace creates Twitter hashtags with motif of 17th century crown to sit on king's head during May ceremony

Buckingham Palace has revealed an official emoji to celebrate the coronation. The colourful cartoon motif depicts the 17th-century gold jewelled St Edward's crown with purple velvet cap - the regalia which will be used to crown the king on 6 May.

It is the first emoji created for a British coronation, as the last crowning in Britain, Elizabeth II's 70 years ago, predated the internet, social media and mobile phones.
