Forty thousand homes and businesses are without power, with flood warnings issued for the Daintree and Mossman River

Roy Zammataro was at his home in Newell Beach, north of Port Douglas, when Tropical Cyclone Jasper struck.

He said a nearby mango tree proved to be the biggest threat - with fruit ripped from its branches turned into projectiles.
