Ex-SAS corporal has appealed a defamation trial decision in favour of Nine and the Canberra Times over 2018 reports on alleged war crimes

Evidence from Afghan civilians present during the alleged unlawful killing of a prisoner is riddled with inconsistency, Ben Roberts-Smith's appeal has heard.

The war veteran's barrister Bret Walker SC has told the federal court of what he says are a wide range of problems with evidence purporting to show Roberts-Smith kicked the handcuffed prisoner Ali Jan off a small cliff before ordering his execution.
